All About Me -- And The Story of We

Over the past couple of days I have gotten quite a few followers, which is really exciting for this new blogger! I'd like to say Thank You for stopping by, commenting and following me!

-- WARNING -- Long Post --

In my first post, I explained what possessed me to start blogging. I briefly mentioned where I've lived. In a post about our four year anniversary, I talked about the past four years with M and where we've been. My "about me" doesn't really give much of a detailed background about myself.

With a slew of new followers, I thought I would be more detailed about myself -- where I'm going and where I've been.

I grew up in a very small town in Northern Michigan. I spent my summers boating -- and loving life -- and the rest of the time I spent plotting my escape.

I went to college in Michigan where I met some of the best friends I could ask for. This is a picture of a little 5 year reunion at my best friend Allison's wedding last summer.

June 2011

My last year of college I was truly planning my escape from Michigan. I've always been a California girl at heart. My cousin -- who was like a brother to me at the time -- had recently made the move from New York to San Diego. I decided to visit him the spring of my last semester.

April 2006

While visiting my cousin, I actually met M the first night I was in San Diego. No, its not what you are all thinking. It wasn't love at first sight and I didn't move to San Diego for him. M was a friend of a friend of my cousin's. My cousin worked with M's roommate so M happened to be in my cousin's circle of friends. They were all a bunch of guys who recently had moved to San Diego. Anyway M and his roommate met us out my first night in town. I maybe said a word or two to him. They hung out with us for the rest of my visit.

Goofy M, long before we knew what was in store for us! Also -- these pictures were from my "chubby" days. I am not proud to post them!

I fell in love with San Diego and moved there three months later. By December 2006 I had my own place right on the beach. This was my view.

After moving to California, the only people I knew were my cousin's friends. Including M. M and I quickly became best friends. Nothing more, nothing less. I didn't have eyes for him. I actually had my eye on someone else at the time.

M was always there when I wanted to do something or go somewhere. We were buddies. He saw me at my good and he saw me at my not so good. While I was too shy to strike it up with the guy I had my eye on, I was a chatterbox to M. I was myself.

Flash forward about a year and a half. I'm not sure what it was but I woke up one morning and it was like a light switch. All of a sudden I was crushing on M! I didn't know what to do and I didn't know how to act. A couple months later his lease was up and he was looking to move closer to the beach. He ended up moving a few blocks from me and I couldn't have been happier. We kept hanging out like old friends but still to him thats what I was. A friend. I was in the friend zone. Needless to say, M was a hard catch.

Finally, in January 2008 I caught him! His feelings changed for me and we've been "us" ever since. Things weren't easy at first. He had a girl "friend" from his past who for about a year and a half tried to get in our my way.

Moving on -- we moved on! I had always talked about living in Colorado and after a little over a year and a half together M had the opportunity to transfer his job to Denver. We decided to take a leap of faith.

Although I liked Colorado, I very much disliked Denver. I regretted the move and instantly started planning our move back to California. I grew up on the water and I couldn't stand being landlocked. Well, M wasn't on the same page I was. After a long year and a half, we started talking about moving to Michigan. Where does Michigan come in you ask? Well, M said he wouldn't go back to California and I was starting to miss my family and was getting over California in general. A lot of talk and throwing ideas around later -- M decided he would go back to California. Mainly because his job would transfer him back. Me? It means I would be left to the job search. (Where I currently reside).

In August we decided to make the move back to California. Although I am a California girl at heart, and always will be, I am constantly on the move to find happiness.

Now that I am back in California I have been more home sick than ever. I've been gone for over 5 years and as my parents get older I want to spend time near them, not jumping around from state to state. I would ideally like to buy a house in Northern Michigan and start a family while they are still around to enjoy grandchildren. I have major separation anxiety from my mom. I'd be lost without her in my life. And there's my dad too.

So this next year should be pretty interesting. Trying to talk about moving once again, trying to find my place in life all while I am trying to find balance with M. Its hard to make a decision I want when I know there is another person it will affect. Jobs are hard to come by in Northern Michigan -- not that I am having any luck in SoCal right now --

So there you have it. The story of me -- how I got here -- and of us -- and where we've been.

Thanks for sticking though it!
